المستخلص

The present study analyzes the manifestation of the tragic condition of man's existence in Memories of an Employee (1920) by the Italian writer Federigo Tozzi.
The purpose of this article is to identify the origin and the characterizing elements of this state of dismay of the protagonist through the critical study of the so-called 'mysterious acts of ours' present in Tozzi's story.
In fact, one of the main characteristics of the writer is the ability to describe, or rather present, the human soul through episodes that take on the entity of epiphanic episodes and revealing the 'disease of the soul'. This condition arises from the perennial state of fear and anguish that dominates the protagonist of the work.
Therefore, the tragic nature of man's destiny is represented as the consequence of an inert existence, guided solely by fear of the other and of the surrounding reality, to the point of resulting in a defeat of man in the face of his own fate.
